The Reward of Rest
How Downtime Helps us Reconnect.
This is a phrase we’re all familiar with, I’m sure : “why pausing might be the most productive thing you can do”, yet in a world that is fast paced, to do lists that never end, and demands that need to be met, It’s not surprising that most often this feels like the last thing we “should” do.
I write this from a hammock on my balcony on the West Coast of Mexico. Granted, we don’t always have the opportunity to take long haul breaks, I’ve come to Puerto Escondido to visit my daughter whom has been travelling for a year, and I’m so grateful.
As a Massage therapist and Yoga Teacher, holding space for my clients I believe strongly in the importance of wellness - both mental and physical, it’s vital to allow for balance so we can pause, reflect, re set and invite more creativity.
No matter your profession or whether you are a homemaker and stay at home mum, having work /life balance is essential to avoid burnout and keep inspiration flowing. With space we invite motivation, not because we push harder, but because our energy finds some texture, perhaps introducing variety (not pressure).
We don’t always have to take a holiday to find motivation, yet as I spend time here on the beautiful coast of Mexico, dipping into a different cadence and way of life, it’s easier for me to gain some clarity, find some creativity and re charge my battery.
Motivation tends to stick when my days have different flavours. Adding a walk here, a good meal there. Definitely a yoga session in between. A plan that feels small but exciting. I don’t need every day to be productive; I just need it to feel intentional. Quiet progress still counts.
Avoiding burnout isn’t about doing less. It’s usually a sign that something in our life needs to feel lighter, more human, or more fun.
